Illinois Consumers in Disaster Areas
  • Moratorium on cancellations and non renewals. As a result of the current and imminent flooding disaster in the State of Illinois, Universal Casualty Company will not cancel or non renew any policies issued to policyholders residing in areas that have declared disaster areas by Governor Rod R. Blagojevich or President George W. Bush. This applies to policies issued on or after June 10, 2008 until August 18, 2008.
  • Other insurance-related time period extensions. Affected policyholders shall be granted an extension on any and all policy provisions that impose a time limit for an insured or claimant to perform any act, including the submission of a claim or proof of loss, reporting information, submission of bills, or payment of funds. Such extension shall be for 60 days from the last date required under the terms of the policy.
  • Availability of the Illinois Division of Insurance. The Illinois Division of Insurance is available for filing a complaint regarding any disaster-related dispute or issue. Consumers may call the Division?s toll-free complaint hotline at (866) 445-5364, or file a complaint online at: http://www.idfpr.com/doi/Complaints/Complaints.asp
